A Place For Mourning

Prayers of Comfort for Those in Mourning

Prayer does not erase grief, but it invites God into it. When words are hard to find, these prayers can hold your heart.

1. Prayer for the Loss of a Parent

God this pain is surreal. I want to thank you for the love of a good Parent. (I recognize not everyone has that testimony). But even with that, I am still saddened and grieved at this loss. Hold me Lord in the emptiness of their absence. Help me Lord, as I navigate this new normal that I wasn’t quite ready for. With you, I can do all things. So even in this, I praise you. I give you honor…Glory and I submit all of my broken pieces to you.  I am comforted by the hope that I will see them/him/her again. Continue to whisper words of comfort to my spirit as I continue to live this life that You have given me.
In Jesus Name I pray.  Amen

2. Prayer for the Loss of a Child

God, this pain is deeper than words.

Only You understand the weight I carry.
Hold my heart gently, for it feels shattered.
Wrap me in Your peace when life feels unbearable. Be close to me, Lord.
In Jesus Name I pray. Amen

3. Prayer for the Loss of a Spouse

Lord, I feel the loneliness of missing the one I built life with.

Comfort me in the silence and the space they once filled. Help me through each day, one breath at a time.
Remind me that I am not alone.
In Jesus Name I pray. Amen

4. Prayer for the Loss of a Friend or Relative

Father, thank You for the gift of this relationship.

Their presence mattered, and their absence hurts.
Help me cherish memories without being consumed by sorrow. Strengthen me as I mourn.
In Jesus Name I pray. Amen

5. Prayer for Someone Close

Lord, my heart is grieving someone I loved deeply.

Some days I feel strong, and other days I fall apart. Meet me in every moment.
Carry me when I cannot carry myself.
In Jesus Name I pray. Amen

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. — Matthew 5:4
